Our client, a Housing Association in Leicester, is currently recruiting for a Group Debt and Welfare Benefit Officer. This is a full time position and the salary is circa 23,350 per annum plus car allowance.

This important role will help the Group in preparing for the Welfare Reform Changes and help their customers with debt management and benefit maximisation. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is ready for the challenge this role will present.

You will lead on the Groups Financial Inclusion Strategy, helping to ensure customers are accessing the right financial products; have access to fair credit and banking services and the knowledge of how to use these products.

You will help customers to maximise their income by assisting customers to make benefit claims including the more complicated disability benefits and will run awareness campaigns.

You will provide a debt advice service to help customers to manage any debts they have including preparing financial statements, setting a payment plan and contacting creditors.

You will have experience of preparing and attending tribunals, and take a lead on liaison with key partners such as Local Authorities, DWP and Advice Agencies particularly relating to those customers impacted by the Welfare Reform Act.

You will ensure that customers are involved in the decision making, ensure that the service is communicated with regular newsletters to customers, providing training and advice to customers and colleagues and prepare performance reports for your area of service.

You must have excellent communication skills, be able to work without close supervision and have previous experience of customer service. You will need either a debt qualification (or equivalent experience) and welfare benefit experience. You will need to understand what changes are happening with the welfare benefit system and understand the impact for the customers and for Housing Associations.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to the service including the occasional evening working, have excellent IT knowledge and, most importantly, the commitment to reach high performance standards as an every day aim.

Based in Leicester, this role is commutable from areas surrounding Derby, Nottingham and Loughborough.
